Woofferton Transmitting Station

Postby clivep » Wed Jun 22, 2016 10:54 am

Woofferton Transmitting Station near Ludlow in Shropshire, is the last shortwave transmitting station remaining in the UK. It was originally built by the BBC in the Second World War and contained six 50KW RCA transmitters.
During the Cold War, it was upgraded with six 250KW Marconi transmitters, and has subsequently received further upgrades.

One of the senior transmitter engineers there has produced a series of videos on YouTube describing the 3 different types of transmitter in use in great detail.

If you are interested in such things, I'm sure you will find David Porter's descriptrion of the equipment fascinating. It is currently in 13 parts.
